Surface coatings are often used as protection against wear and/ or corrosion.

Investigation methods are:
  • microscopic investigations (optical microscope, scanning electron microscope), e.g., for observation of defects like pores and microcracks or changes of the surface state after operation
  • chemical analyses (EDX, XPS, SIMS, Raman spectroscopie) for investigations of chemical properties or changes of the surface state after operation
  • impedance spectroscopy, e.g. to observe changes of dielectric properties of polymeric coatings due to absorption of hydraulic electrolytes
In the case of more complex problems, it is possible to perform a literature research to receive an overview on existing investigations and their results.
