The semiconductor/ electrolyte interface shows normally a different behaviour as the interface between metals and electrolytes. While the metal/ electrolyte interface is normally determined by a ohmic contact, on a semiconductor/ electrolyte interface mainly a Schottky contact is present. Important parameters in the electrochemistry of semiconductors are the flatband potential, the break-down potential in blocking direction of the contact and the capacitance of the space charge layer.
